JOHANNESBURG – Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane had his wishes granted Monday, when his side was paired with minnows in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 round.
After his side beat crosstown rivals SuperSport United 1-0 in the last 32 round last weekend, Mosimane issued a veiled complaint that the draw was never in his side’s favour, expressing his wish for a more lenient draw that would afford his squad rest ahead of their involvement in both the league chase and CAF Champions League glory.
On Monday, his wishes were granted when Masandawana were paired against one of the lightweights – Vaal University of Technology. Not only that, Mosimane’s other veiled wish for championship rivals Kaizer Chiefs to meet a stronger side were also granted, as the Amakhosi got a tricky Highlands Park in an all-PSL tie.
It is now for Mosimane to guard against falling on his verbal sword, as he suggested that his side would neither need extra time nor lose against a small side in the cup ties.
