Hawks dismiss fake NPA withdrawal certificate for under fire Rand West Municipal Manager

By Busisani Ncube

The Hawks have dismissed fake news doing the rounds on social media that all fraud and corruption allegations against the Rand West Municipality Themba Goba have been cleared.

The Hawks dismissed the certificate of withdrawal as fake

Goba has been accused of gross mismanagement of municipal funds and now faces charges of corruption and maladministration. The Hawks last week confirmed that they have been investigating a case involving the manipulation of the tender development funds between 2016 and 2019. They also said the docket has been handed over to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for allocation.
The municipality lost about R1.5 billion through fruitless and wasteful expenditure amongst others.

However, at the weekend a report written by a “Shane Dladla” was brought to the Hawks’ attention. It claimed that “a public report will be released in a few days which will reveal that Rand West Municipal Manager has been cleared of corruption charges by the Hawks”.

In a statement, the Hawks described the report as “malicious fake news”.

“DPCI can confirm that all fraud and corruption allegations against the Rand West Municipality are still under investigation and that no one is cleared from this matter,” the Hawks said in a statement.

The fake news report was followed by a fraudulent “certificate of withdrawal of charges” document made to believe was drafted by office of the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).

“DPCI will get to the bottom of the origin of the malicious report as well as the fraudulent NPA document which are misleading the public and also interfering with investigation. Therefore, DPCI would like to categorically distance itself from the fake report as well as the fake certificate of withdrawal of charges released for public consumption,” the Hawks said.
