JOHANNESBURG – The five suspects accused of the murdering former Olando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa have appeared in Boksburg magistrates court in Ekurhuleni Johannesburg.
They are facing charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances
The accused were arrested in Johannesburg and Kwazulu Natal. In the turn of events the four of the accused denied having anything to do with the murder, with one of the accused refusing to enter the dock saying he does not know why he is in court and does not agree with charges against him.
He went on to say the arrest are just a witch hunt by the police, him and co-accused want the proceedings televised so that the nation will know the truth.
Private invstigator of AfriForum Garrie Nel said he is not suprised about the suspects ‘s reaction in court.
” Nothing that happenned in court will change anything, we have a strong case.” said Nel
Senzo Meyiwa ‘s brother, Sifiso Meyiwa who was present at the court said he was shocked by the suspects actions, because the police told them they had confessions from the suspects, but its shocking that they are denying any involvement.
The Orlando Pirates star was gunned down six years ago at his girlfriend’s house Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus.
Speaking a day before the court, minister of police Beki Cele said that the police had made a breakthrough in the case, he also made an announcement that the weapon used in the murder has ben found.
” We have been looking for the weapon since the investigation started. We have found the weapon and it has been ballistically tested. We have concrete case this time because it has evidence.
While investigations continues police says there are more suspects to be arrested, according to intial reports, Meyiwa, Kelly,Zandi and their mother aswell as Meyiwa’s friends were in inside the house on the fateful day.
In a press conference on Monday, Afriforum has also revealed that Meyiwa’s murder was not a robbery but assassination,speaking at a press briefing the head of the lobby procecution group Garrie Nel said the masterminder is still at large.
” The important aspect in this case is the masterminder behind the assissanation, we will assist the South African Poilce Services to make sure the person is arrested”. Nel said.
NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema also said they are confident they have a tight case. He also took time to talk about the leaked document that impicate Senzo then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo.
” There is a document that is not of the public that has been leaked, we are still investigating and when we are done further arrests will be done
Outside the court soccer lovers were camped to show solidarity to the Meyiwa family.
The court was adjourned to the 27th of November 2020.
