HARARE – The Zimbabwe men’s senior national soccer team qualified for the 2019 finals of the African Cup of Nations, after they beat Congo 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare Sunday.

Going into the game with fate in their own hands, The Warriors settled matters before the interval – goals from Khama Billiat (20th minute) and Captain Knowledge Musona (36th minute) powered the Southern African nation to their fourth participation at the finals.

Hope abounds that The Warriors will do better in the June-July edition of Africa’s biennial soccer showcase, after each of the 2004, 2006 and 2017 dances ended with a first round elimination.

Choosing to leave disappointment that may still lied ahead in Egypt for when it happens, Zimbabwean soccer lovers took to the social media to express their joy.

“It’s a very good squad and I believe the boys will do well against big boys from the North and West of Africa this coming June and July,” wrote veteran radio personality, Ezra Tshisa Sibanda in a Facebook post that probably sums up the ecstatic mood that gripped fellow soccer lovers.
