JOHANNESBURG – The struggle for self-determination will eventually bear fruit for the people of Matabeleland, western Zimbabwe if they remain resolute and united, said King Collins Bulelani Khumalo in Johannesburg recently.
Addressing the thousands that gathered for the king’s Imbizo at Berea Park, Johannesburg at the weekend, the Ndebele king urged his subjects to remain focused.
“My power comes from you. As an individual I am powerless and there is nothing I can achieve,” said King Khumalo.
“I promise you that we are going to do it. We are not asking for permission from certain people for us to free our people, but we want it done. We want to revive our culture, norms and heritage now, not tomorrow. I urge all the tribes in Mthwakazi to unite. We want programmes that will bring us together. I will work hard to improve the lives of our people at every level, be it agriculturally, economically or academically.
“We don’t sleep as we are working hard on a daily basis to ensure our dreams come true. Our people are suffering and we are doing everything in our power to try and improve their lives.”
Nhlambabaloyi chief, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, who has become a thorn in the flesh for Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu (PF) party, said victory was certain for the people of Matabeleland.
Chief Ndiweni, who claimed he was recently followed by unknown men suspected to be members of the government’s Central Intelligence Organisation in Bulawayo, said nothing would stop victory for the people of Mthwakazi, adding the multitudes who graced the event bore evidence of the fact that Mthwakazi people were gradually but truly uniting for a purpose.
“I am so happy to see this encouraging number of people. It tells me that you are supporting us in our endeavours to free our state that is invaded by people from all corners. I promise that we will always be there for you.”
Chief Ndiweni said the journey covered so far meant the people had crossed over.
“We have a lot and we have already crossed the river. We have no time to play. Time is not on our side. Do you think that we are playing? Do you think it’s a simple or easy journey? Absolutely not, but we will soldier on.
“When danger strikes, please wake your farther up to defend you. This year will not die before we take it. To those who have been yakking and harassing us, I say you have gone out of hand and touched what should not be touched. We do not have time for parties or groups, this is the time for us to think outside our boxes and work together. The political parties divide us and that weakens our society.”
