JOHANNESBURG – Award-winning Mthwakazi maskandi singer, Qedumcimbi, will later this year launch his new album in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Tsholotsho-born artist popularly known as King Qedas by his fans, said the new album titled Status would tentatively be launched at Berea Park on September 5.
“Everything is on course for the launch of the new album, which is one of my best offerings since I broke into the music industry,” said Qedumcimbi, who became the first artist to win Ezakithi Music Awards in the Maskandi category last year.
He beat more than 100 musicians to win the coveted award – voted for by his legion of followers, with his last offering titled “Aids”.
Being the inaugural winner of the annual awards has catapulted him to the top of Mthwakazi maskandi, further growing his popularity in the fast-growing genre.
“The new album has 12 tracks that I promise will appeal to many people, like all my previous albums. Artists who want to participate in the show are free to register with a R200 entry fee.”
The show will run from 10am to 6pm.
Qedumcimbi, real name Thokozani Khumalo, said the show will be graced by two of the most popular comedians and Masters of Ceremonies in Johannesburg, Mcasiseli Gwaza-Gwaza and DJ Mapressa, who will be exchanging the microphone.
“The album comprises songs that carry a collection of messages, including love and manhood,” said the singer.
“Fans will most likely love track number nine, titled Kungamane Sidubulane and track number 12 which is titled Ngangino Baba Manje Angisenamuntu.”
