The Third Way: TPF in vigorous Mat South membership drive

Political Reporter

GWANDA – The Matatebeleland South leadership of Zimbabwe’s opposition political party, The Patriotic Front (TPF), this week said it would take advantage of the relaxation of Covid-19 lockdown rules in the country to build its structures.

The Zimbabwean government has relaxed some of the restriction to allow for more people at gathering, some of which doubled and TPF has viewed this as a chance for the party to build its membership base.

“A virtual Provincial Executive Committee meeting we held at the weekend resolved that districts and wards should go ahead in forming structures,” said Prince Nkosilathi Mangena, TPF’s chairperson for Matabeleland South Province, earlier this week, adding that the party was on a massive search for more volunteer coordinators for each district in the province.

The provincial wing of the party, led by commercial farmer Darryl Collet and calling itself The Third Way, has also advised its youth wing, The Young Patriots and its women wing, The Women Patriots, to go ahead and form their own provincial and district structures “as soon as possible”.

“The Province intends to use the next sixe months to built structures in all its districts,” added Mangena.

“Political and Economic workshops will soon be announced so that members are oriented and drilled into the founding values and principles of TPF. The workshops will be conducted district by district. We agreed that during the period, we will do the best we can for the benefit of the party and this cause.

“We noted the growth of Mat South and we resolved to make sure these members are given all the necessary support possible to also recruit more members. With travel and gathering restrictions relaxed, we agreed that it is time to hit the ground running and become visible in our communities.”

Since its formation in February, TPF has eaten into many small political parties in Zimbabwe, with former members of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC Green, Zapu, United Democratic Movement (UDM), Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T and political virgins flocking to join the new arrival.
